The Rockets Developmental Program (RDP) places a high priority on 8U age players. We are committed to making sure they have everything they need to succeed and have fun. We believe that we help to develop the person, not just the player. Our development program has structured and a specific curriculum designed to prepare our young players for their next stage of their development as well as keep them interested and engaged throughout. We also emphasize sportsmanship and what it means to be part of a team.
The RDP is a key component of the NJ Rockets. This popular program is run and led by NJ Rocket head coaches and staff. The RDP is based on age-appropriate competition and training for boys and girls ages 8 and younger, beginning with their first exposure to the game and carrying them through Squirt hockey and beyond. The RDP places a heightened emphasis on skill development and long-term athlete development principles, providing a great start for the best possible youth hockey experience. The RDP follows USA Hockey's American Development Model.
Our young Rockets will have FUN and are in constant motion in small spaces. The RDP utilizes station based instruction, small area games and cross-ice competition to deliver more repetitions, more puck touches and more skill development per hour of ice time. RDP provides the most efficient, most engaging development path for children, keeping them both in the game and on a path toward their full potential.
The RDP staff will see that your child improves their skating, puck handling and shooting skills along with learning the basic fundamentals of the game of hockey. And most importantly have FUN!

The New Jersey Rockets Development Program, Introduction to Hockey and Mite 8U teams are ready to go for the 2017-2018 season. After many successful seasons of 8U age hockey, we couldn't be more excited about the 2017-2018 season. Our 8U program has grown to nearly 80 families.
Our 8U hockey mission is simple: To build a strong hockey foundation for each and every player. By developing fundamental hockey skills and creating a fun and supportive environment, and a fun and exciting atmosphere, we strive to both inspire a love of hockey that will prepare our youngest players for a lifetime of success and fun on the ice. Ten years from now we want our NJ Rocket players and families to look back on their youth hockey experience and say "I love being a NJ Rocket!".
