Defenseman Nick Fiorentino has committed to the United States Military Academy.

NEWARK, N.J. – The New Jersey Rockets are pleased to announce that defenseman Nick Fiorentino (Hartsdale, N.Y.) has committed to the United States Military Academy for the 2016-17 season.

Fiorentino dressed in 153 games over his two-year Rocket career.

“Army had been following my play this season and asked me to visit,” Fiorentino said. “I felt very welcomed by everyone there. The coaching staff is great and I felt Coach Riley, who comes from a family of great coaches, could really develop my game to where I want it to be.”

Known for his physical play on the backend, Fiorentino led all Rocket defensemen with 24 goals in his two seasons in Newark, including ten on the power-play and six game-winners.

“I’m looking forward to making a contribution to a great organization like West Point and hopefully bring some firepower to their backend,” he added.

In addition to his ability to put the puck in the net, the 6’3” defenseman also showed a knack for making plays from the blueline, with 39 assists.

“I couldn’t be happier for this opportunity,” Fiorentino reflected. “West Point is a rigorous academic institution, which was important for my family. I wanted to play somewhere where I could reach my academic and athletic goals.

“I can’t thank my family enough for all of the hours they’ve put in to get me,” he added. “[Former] coaches Thornton, Mullen, and Samms were very helpful with my development, guiding me as I reached a decision regarding my collegiate career.”
