NEWARK, N.J. – The New Jersey Rockets are pleased to announce that Eastern Hockey League defenseman Alec Mono (Las Vegas, Nev.) has committed to Curry College for the 2016-17 season.

Mono is the first commitment from the junior program this season.

“I chose Curry because of the rich hockey culture it has,” Mono said. “The school itself attracted me because it was on the smaller side and when I was there, all of the students were really friendly and the spirit around campus for the sports teams was off the charts.”

“The whole time I was there I felt completely comfortable and I knew Curry would be the place I would like to play and study for the next four years of my life,” Mono added.

“Curry will be getting a defenseman with some real offensive upside and a solid defensive game,” commented head coach Sean Cromarty.

A first year member of the Rockets organization, Mono has three goals and 11 assists in 28 games. Two of Mono’s three goals have been game-winners. The Las Vegas, Nevada resident joined the program following a 2014-15 season split between the Oakland Junior Grizzlies (T1EHL) and the Springfield Junior Pics (USPHL).

“Alec has done a great job developing this year both on and off the ice to ready himself for college hockey in the fall,” Cromarty added. “I’m proud of his progress and look forward to watching him continue to lead our EHL program down the final stretch.”

The Rockets return to action this weekend as part of the EHL’s Martin Luther King Weekend Showcase at the Tri-Town Arena in Hooksett, New Hampshire.
