NEWARK, N.J. – The New Jersey Rockets are pleased to announce that Eastern Hockey League defenseman Marc Del Gaizo (Basking Ridge, N.J.) has committed to St. Lawrence University for the 2018-19 season.

After leading the Rockets junior program in goals by a defenseman with 14 in the 2014-15 season, Del Gaizo was promoted to the Eastern Hockey League and has excelled with five goals and 14 assists, which leads all Rocket defensemen.

“I chose St. Lawrence because I fell in love with the coaching staff and had trust in them from the beginning of the recruiting process,” Del Gaizo said. “The ECAC is one of the most competitive leagues in all of NCAA hockey and now I will have an opportunity to play there.”

Originally founded in 1925, St. Lawrence is a long-standing member of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League. The Saints have won six ECAC tournament titles and two ECAC regular season championships with four Frozen Four appearances.

“I loved the tradition of St. Lawrence, from the school to the hockey program, and I felt part of their family when I visited,” Del Gaizo added. “I just felt comfortable walking around the campus and could instantly see myself playing with a St. Lawrence sweater in Appleton Arena.”

“I’m proud of Marc and all the hard work he has put in,” said head coach Sean Cromarty. “This is my second year coaching him and the growth in his game this season has been huge. Playing in the EHL as a 16-year old is by no means an easy task and it’s not for everyone. In Marc’s case, it was the best thing for his development and he has flourished with the extra ice, video and training that junior hockey provides.”

A member of the New Jersey Rockets organization from mites through junior, the Basking Ridge, New Jersey resident is the latest college product produced by the Rockets’ ladder of development.

“St. Lawrence is getting a cerebral, puck-moving defenseman with high-compete,” Cromarty added. “A natural quarterback on the powerplay that makes a good, first pass. Strong in all three zones, Marc had underrated defensive abilities whose best hockey is still to come.”

Del Gaizo was an eighth round selection of the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 2015 USHL Phase I draft.
